IBM client sues over ecommerce software

According to Paul McDouggal of InformationWeek, IBM is facing a $6 million lawsuit from Harry & David filed recently in U.S. District Court in Oregon.

The report claims that Harry & David had to settle claims with both NCR and Charles Hill for using IBM’s Websphere Commerce Server version 5.6, software which allegedly violated patents. The client also claims in the suit that IBM refused to indemnify them, thereby breaching contract.

SitStay.com launches on IBM WCS with tight budget

According to Internet Retailer, SitStay.com relaunched its web site last month on a stripped down version of IBM Websphere Commerce Server. The integration work was done by eGlobal Solutions, who integrated WCS into OrderMotion at a cost far less than the norm. Some platform features were disabled to make it more affordable.

The 11-person retailer has sales of less than $10 million per year, and will now pay hosting fees under $3,000 per month. The company says it saved itself a headcount for administering the old web site, which had been developed in-house.
